Resources - Web Design

The do's and don'ts in web designing

1. Email spam protection

Display your email address on webpages without showing it. If you display your contact email address on your website, hide it from spiders by simple encryption - instead of using the alphabets in the text, use the hexadecimal value for the alphabets - the UNICODE (its subset is also known as ASCII)- which the webbrowser use for display.

Here is the table with the letters and corresponding UNICODE value - just use the corresponding code for each letter of your email address in the HTML source of the webpage.

2. Use of Tables

When you create a large or graphics (JPEG/GIF) intensive page, its a good idea to section your webpage into section encapsulated within tables. On loading, the web browser attempts to first load all the tables and then the contents of the tables - this way if you have large graphic files, the web browser will not get stuck downloading these files, while the user waits in vain.

3. Professional style

There is a difference between a website for a professional service provider and artist - don't fall into the trap of jazzing up a website with music, excessive flash and other creative to stand out from your competitiors - better to stay conventional and beat the competition with quality of text and ease of its presentation.
